In this midsummer, the quadrennial world’s top football event drawing unparalleled attention from hundreds of millions of fans will be held in Doha, Qatar. As the venue for the event’s final, the 80,000-seat glittering “Big Golden Bowl” Lusail Stadium gives prominence to the Arabic cultural characteristic of the Gulf region.

Yutong Bus Boost Green Mobility in Qatar

On Nov. 30, 2020, by virtue of its leading new energy technologies and products, Yutong Bus signed online with Mowasalat a 1,002-unit contract of vehicle supply and service for the world’s top sports event in Qatar in 2022, which included 741 battery electric buses. This is the first time for battery electric buses to support as a “leading actor” the public transport during a world’s top event, and Yutong Bus is the exclusive supplier of the electric buses for Qatar.

In April, 2022, after the last batch of Yutong battery electric buses arrived at Hamad Port, Qatar, the country finished the establishment of a fleet of 741 battery electric buses, laying the foundation of its leading position in the global clean energy public transport. To achieve efficient operation during the event, Mowasalat has equipped the fleet with more than 200 operating and administrative personnel and more than 3000 drivers. After the event, Yutong battery electric buses will continue to run on the road of Qatar to help build a green public transport system.

Green and sustainable development is the core concept of Qatar’s “National Vision 2030”, and Yutong battery electric bus will boost the implementation of Qatar’s public transport electrification strategy and contribute to local green development and economic diversification.

When interviewed by Xinhua News Agency, Mr. Zhou Jian, Chinese ambassador to Qatar, said that Yutong battery electric buses in Qatar represented a major milestone of the cooperation between China and Qatar in building the green silk-road. And, Mr. Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communication of Qatar, pointed out that the arrival of Yutong battery electric buses and the opening of new bus stops and depots was an important step in Qatar's public transport electrification strategy.

The operation of these battery electric buses in Qatar will be the first step in the large-scale commercialization of Chinese buses in Qatar. Yutong Bus has also signed a framework agreement with a Qatar company to establish an electric bus KD factory in the country’s free trade zone, to promote the local industrialization level through technology export, serve the country’s transformation to eco-friendly vehicles, improve its auto supporting capacity, advance local auto industry clusters, and help create a new pattern of local public transport system. Such an endeavor will demonstrate the charm of Chinese national brands, and also renew the image of Chinese intelligent manufacturing.
