Yutong Kicks off Construction of Its First New Energy KD Factory in Qatar
On December 15th, Yutong, in partnership with Qatar’s national transportation company Mowasalat (Karwa), officially commenced construction of an electric bus KD factory with a groundbreaking ceremony at Umm Alhoul Free Zone in Qatar. This facility is not only the first electric vehicle assembly plant in Qatar but also Yutong’s inaugural new energy KD factory in its global expansion, marking a pivotal step in Yutong’s efforts to advance global green transportation development.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of key dignitaries, including Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, and CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority, Mohammed Al Sowaidi. Yutong’s senior executives also attended the event.
The factory, projected to span around 53,000 square meters, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Upon completion, it will enable localized R&D and manufacturing of Yutong’s new energy bus models such as E7S, E9, E11pro and D8E. The factory is designed to start with an annual output of 300 units, scalable to 1,000 units, thereby supporting the high-quality growth of Qatar’s automobile sector.
Yutong views the establishment of this KD factory in Qatar as an important move in its global strategy. In the future, Yutong will take this as an opportunity to deepen its presence in the Middle East, promote the electrification of public transit, adopt intelligent driving technologies, and foster local industry chain cooperation. The new factory is expected to boost Qatar’s green economy, create jobs for local people, and elevate the technological prowess of the automobile manufacturing sector.
As a forerunner in the global new energy bus industry, Yutong is looking forward to joining hands with Qatar and other Middle East countries to usher in a new era of sustainable and intelligent public transportation.
