Yutong, a global leader in new energy buses, in collaboration with OSY S.A., officially launched the “Let’s Go Green” initiative for sustainable mobility at the Aegli Zappeion Conference Center in Athens. The initiative aims to support Greece’s transition to green public transportation and contribute to the development of a more sustainable urban mobility system. The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and OSY S.A.

The operation of electric buses in Greece officially began in May 2024. One year later, the user experience has been positively evaluated by both drivers and passengers, who appreciate the clean, quiet, and comfortable travel offered by new energy vehicles. As part of enhancing green mobility and encouraging citizen participation, the “Let’s Go Green” campaign marks the continuation of efforts toward sustainable development and opens a new chapter in environmentally friendly, people-centered urban mobility in Greece.

The inauguration ceremony brought together representatives from the Ministry of Transport, OSY S.A., and prominent media. Among the distinguished guests were Ms. Despina Paliarouta, Secretary General of Transport; Mr. Stefanos Agiasoglou, CEO of OSY S.A.; Mr. Georgios Panagiotis Drosis, General Director of Production at OSY S.A.; and Mr. Allen Liu, Managing Director of Yutong Southern Europe. The event featured speeches and fruitful discussions, highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to green mobility and the joint efforts of international and domestic stakeholders in promoting sustainable transportation.

In their remarks, Ms. Paliarouta and Mr. Agiasoglou emphasized the importance of energy saving and environmental protection, underscoring the necessity and strategic value of developing green transportation and transitioning to low-emission cities. Ms. Paliarouta noted, “The ‘Let’s Go Green’ initiative goes beyond a simple awareness campaign—it serves as a roadmap toward a transport model with a positive environmental and social impact. Through interactive activities, education, and citizen engagement, ‘Let’s Go Green’ emphasizes the significance of collective effort and individual responsibility in promoting eco-friendly mobility. At the same time, the inclusion of 350 Yutong electric vehicles in the Athens and Thessaloniki bus fleet marks a significant step in implementing the Ministry’s modern transport policy, which integrates the principles of sustainability and safety.”

Focusing on the excellent collaboration between OSY S.A. and Yutong—the manufacturer of 240 electric buses that have joined the Athens transportation network—CEO Mr. Agiasoglou welcomed the “Let’s Go Green” initiative and highlighted its key role in advancing green urban mobility. “OSY, in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, proceeded with a technological upgrade of its fleet based on government guidelines for the shift to sustainable urban transport with environmentally friendly and passenger-oriented vehicles. The transition to electric mobility in Greece was initiated by OSY. I would especially like to thank our drivers, who quickly adapted to the new eco-driving model, leading to their recognition today. These are very important steps for us, and Yutong’s ‘Let’s Go Green’ initiative, which includes honoring OSY drivers, gives us the opportunity to thank the people of Yutong—our partners who, over the past 5.5 years, have stood at the forefront of the transition to a new era in transport: electromobility. I also want to thank the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for its excellent cooperation and support in achieving our key goal—providing modern, green, and safe transport services.”

Mr. Allen Liu stated: “We sincerely thank the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and OSY S.A. for their trust and support. The road to a green future begins on June 11, and we are ready to work with all stakeholders to promote low-emission mobility in Greece through meaningful actions.”

A highlight of the event was the Driver Awards Ceremony, recognizing bus drivers for their commitment to safe driving and environmental awareness. The awards honored individual excellence while also promoting professionalism and sustainable practices in the field—encouraging performance optimization, safety enhancement, and the adoption of eco-driving behavior. “They are not just bus drivers—they are ambassadors and champions of a green future,” Mr. Liu emphasized.

During the event, Yutong also presented OSY S.A. with the “NET ZERO FOREST” certificate, recognizing its contribution to global environmental efforts. The certificate is part of Yutong’s international “NET ZERO FOREST” program, implemented in collaboration with charitable organizations: for every new energy vehicle sold, one tree is planted somewhere in the world. To date, tens of thousands of trees have been planted worldwide under the program, supporting ecological restoration and the goal of carbon neutrality.

As a continuation of the initiative, on Tuesday, June 11, a Green Public Mobility Day will be held at Syntagma Square, featuring public engagement activities such as environmental quizzes, social media challenges, and a support wall for eco-friendly transport. Free public transport cards will be distributed, encouraging citizens to choose low-carbon travel and adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.

“‘Let’s Go Green’ is not just a slogan—it is a shared commitment to environmental responsibility, innovation, and the future,” said Mr. Allen Liu.

Following Athens, the “Let’s Go Green” campaign will continue in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, aiming to involve more local businesses and citizens and further strengthen the national effort for green and sustainable mobility.
