On July 7, the first national transportation industry energy-efficient contest of motor vehicle drivers, the Yutong Cup, was initiated in a grand fashion. Taking place in Fuzhou, Fujian province, the Yutong Cup is aimed at popularizing the “green driving” philosophy and increasing the vocational quality of practitioners. 

60 people are expected to take part in the contest at the first stop of Fuzhou. The buses used in the contest are all Yutong’s ZK6127H buses, which are 12 meters long and was the top selling bus model of 2008.

Yutong has been constantly exploring long-term energy efficiency standards and has also been making its own efforts to continually refresh the industry standard. Management at Yutong insists on the concept of sustainable development, concerning both environmental friendliness and production operations. The research and development deparment utilizes the state-level technical center, which is the first and only post-doctoral bus research and experiment center. Yutong has continuously increased its R&D capability, among which the energy-efficient and emission-cutting technologies are the most important issues. The thermal management technology of engines developed by Yutong can cut fuel consumption by 5%~10% compared with the same kind of buses that are not equipped with the technology. In cooperation with Alcoa Inc. from USA, Yutong has also launched a full-aluminum city bus, which is lighter, has higher fuel efficiency, and better safety.
