As Europe’s passenger transport sector continues its transition toward electrification, battery-electric technology is expanding into intercity transport. To meet the demands of long-distance, high-frequency operations, Yutong’s IC Series is designed with a focus on power, reliability, and the driving and passenger experience, addressing the practical operating needs of European intercity services.

Range and Power for Long-Distance Operations

For intercity passenger transport, vehicles need to maintain consistent performance over longer operating distances. The IC12E offers two battery capacity options, 399.92 kWh and 465.99 kWh, with a maximum range of up to 610 km under SORT 2 conditions. The IC15E is available with 528.13 kWh and 579.60 kWh battery configurations, allowing operators to select the appropriate option according to different routes and operating requirements.The vehicles also incorporate high-efficiency motors, low-rolling-resistance tires, variable-frequency water pumps and an integrated thermal management system to optimize overall energy consumption and improve energy efficiency in battery electric operation.

In terms of power performance, the IC Series has also been developed around the requirements of intercity operations. The IC12E delivers a maximum torque of 3,800 N·m and a maximum gradeability of 20%, it is designed to adapt to different road conditions while providing smoother power delivery.

Quality and Comfort for Long-Term Operation and Passenger Needs

The vehicles feature a high-strength body frame and closed-loop protective structure, together with 700 MPa ultra-high-strength steel and Yutong’s Y.E.S. electrophoretic coating technology to enhance structural strength and corrosion resistance. The battery system is equipped with YESS five-level protection, whilethe battery, motor and electronic control systems achieve IP68 and IP6K9K protection ratings. A liquid-cooling system further support reliability in long-term operation.

The vehicles also comply with the requirements of the EU General Safety Regulation (GSR). Addressing three stages of safety — safe driving before an incident, hazard warning, and intervention and control — Yutong has developed active safety technologies and equipped the vehicles with intelligent driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to enhance hazard warning, prevention and avoidance capabilities and help reduce the risk of collisions and rollover incidents.

In terms of the driving and passenger experience, the IC Series offers a seating capacity of up to 72+1 seats and a 5.1 m³ luggage compartment, meeting peak intercity operation demands. Ergonomically designed seats, the Yutong intelligent cockpit, and remote pre-scheduling of the electric air conditioning further enhance the ride experience through improved driving ergonomics and cabin comfort.

For intercity passenger transport, electrification is more than a change in powertrain technology.
